Revised COA as of 1/29/2018: Reconstruct storefront that was removed from along sidewalk edge an recessed in more recent years. Proposed design to align storefront with edge of sidewalk based on photographic and physical evidence, and historic documention. Utilize fire-rated wood storefront framing and entry door frame and paneled bulkhead. Wood panels to be trimmed with quarter round. Glass transom to be re-created across storefront. Opening in storefront without door to remain in right end of storefront to allow for Knoxville Utility Board access to meters. Flush metal access door to electrical room to be added to left-hand side of storefront. See submitted drawings dated 1/29/2018 (elevations), 1/11/2018 (details).

Renew previously approved COA for restoration work on house. Install two sets of twin double-hung wooden window sashes into existing openings of front attic dormer where none exist, to match those documented in historic photograph. Install wood-framed windows into existing opening on non-original dormer addition on rear where only late metal-framed windows exist. Install wood-framed window in attic gable into existing 3x3 square opening on east side where late metal-framed window exists. Install wood double-hung window into existing recessed opening in mud-room on east side where none exists. Remove late wood paneling from original garage door opening. Remove non-original garage door. Opening is not visible from public right-of-way.

Construct carriage-house-type side-gabled garage at rear of property to the west of main house. Asphalt-shingled roof to have a pitch of 10/12 to match that of the main house. Wood-frame with 4-inch clapboard siding with overall dimensions of the enclosed portion being 26'Lx24'Wx ~22'H, with roof extending to cover brick-paved patio with dimensions of 12'Wx24'L. Roof extension over patio supported by six 8'x8' square posts with trim to match those on main house porch. Block foundation to be stuccoed with 8" to 12" of exposure and no exposure on the alley side to accommodate the driveway into the garage. One-over-one wood double-hung windows in each side gable of garage to match the size on the main house. Front-gabled dormer on east side with twin set of double-hung windows and exposed rafter tails. All windows to be wooden and 2'-4"x5'-2" in size. Two carriage house-style metal roll-up doors on north side and wooden access door on north and south sides with 2 to 5 recessed panels. Architectural elements, including 8-inch facia, 8-inch corner boards, eave brackets, and exposed rafter tails to match those on existing house. Install half-round gutters with copper finish. // COA amended to include shed-roof dormer on rear (west) elevation with paired one-over-one windows, centered over enclosed portion. Shed-roof dormer approved by Kaye Graybeal (staff) in January 2019.
