MPC serves people representing a variety of backgrounds, issues, and concerns: developers, neighborhood advocates, elected officials, business people, and private citizens, just to name a few. To improve the agency's comprehensive understanding of the Knox community, MPC listens to its customers and welcomes them as partners in the community planning process. Citizens are encouraged to participate in programs and seminars sponsored by MPC as well as public hearings and workshops on specific issues.
MPC maintains a presence in the community so the staff can easily present and receive information. MPC staff attend more than 20 regularly-scheduled public meetings each month; this is in addition to the numerous special meetings and presentations associated with plan development, up-dating, and approval.
The Planning Commission informs the public about ongoing and upcoming projects, plans, and services through a speakers bureau, a quarterly newsletter, a monthly flyer, press releases, legal notices, and several bulletin boards on Community Television's Public Access Information Line.
