The first recorded occupancy of the building was by Peter Kern Co, bakers and confectioners in 1876. The building housed the Cole, Inc. The building is individually listed on the National Register of Historic Places as The Mall Building, and is included in the Market Square National Register Historic District, as well.
The sign was originally approved to be located at the corner of the building. The sign was installed on the second story of the south elevation of the building, near the corner. This application is to request approval for the installed location. The sign design as installed is the same as approved.
