Applicant Request

Applicant has requested two items in connection with roof work - 1) Remove a deteriorated brick chimney; 2) Installation of a new roof.

Site Info

One story frame with aluminum siding wall covering. Hip and gable roof with asphalt shingle roof covering and louvered attic vent. One story Neoclassical front porch altered to Bungalow style with splayed square wood posts on brick piers, sawn wood balustrade. Double hung one over one windows. Interior end brick chimney. Brick with stucco foundation. Irregular plan.

Applicant has received a Certificate to reroof from staff (8/4/99), which Commission is being asked to ratify. Commission is also being asked to consider removal of the brick chimney, which has already been accomlished. Staff and applicant have discussed the removal. He understands that he should not have removed the chimney without permission. At the same time, the chimney was extremely deterioratd and leaning badly. It could not hav been repointd, and would have needed to be rebuilt. The base has been retained by applicant so the location will be obvious to any future owner wishing to rebuild the chimney.
