Fourth and Gill H-1: Level II

7-E-06-HZ

Staff Recommendation

APPROVE Certificate No. 626064&G. Proposed dormers will not be visible from Eleanor, and will duplicate the existing dormer shapes already found on the building. (pg. 10, #1, 4th & Gill Design Guidelines)

Applicant Request

Level II. Replacement/repair
Other: Add dormers

Add dormers to sides at rear of house, with wood windows to provide access to upper stories. Side walls of dormers to be either wood shingles or man-made or natural slate. Provisions of earlier Certificate to remain in effect.

Site Info

Queen Anne Cottage (c.1900)

One and one-half story frame with aluminum siding wall covering. Hip roof with front and rear offset gables, front and side hipped dormers, asphalt shingle roof covering and imbricated shingles in front gable. One over one double hung windows. One story two-thirds front porch with hip roof, turned wood columns with awn wood brackets, sawn wood balustrade, tongue and groove porch floor and bead board ceiling. Two brick interior offset chimneys, one rear exterior brick chimney. Brick foundation. Rectangular plan. Projecting bay on front elevation.

The addition of dormers will allow full utilization of attic space, and will not introduce a new element to the roof, or interfere with the original dormers that still exist on the building. (NOTE: Applicant obtained a Certificate (317064&G) that remains in effect and includes removal of artificial siding, front porch restoration, and full rehab of the building.)
