Site Info

Queen Anne Cottage (c.1891)

One story frame with asbestos shingle wall covering. Hip roof with lower cross gables, asphalt shingle roof covering, sawn wood bargeboard at east gable, and round sawn wood attic vents. One story two bay front porch with replacemnt aluminum columns and two square engaged pilasters with Doric capitals. Two interior offset side stuccoed chimneys. Stuccoed foundation. Irregular plan.

In 1999, demolition was requested for this house. After a denial, the house was purchased by an investor and then sold to Mr. Smith, who will be an owner-occupant. The wood siding under the asbestos shingles was found to be deteriorated or missing, so replacement siding will be wood lap siding. The roof structure will be rebuilt. New windows will be 2/2 double hung wood. The proposed rear addition will make an interior floor plan more workable. Given the commitment of the new owner to complete a high quality rehabilitation, and his and his contractor's sensitivity to the design of the addition, approval is in order.
