Site Info

Alvin Bell House, 528 W. Emory Road, 1933.

The Bell House is a two story Colonial Revival home with a brick veneer first story and a weatherboard second story. Exterior end brick chimneys flank each side of the building, and end in an elaborate corbelled top. A side gable roof tops the structure, with a pent roof with a gabled entry portico on the north façade. The pent roof is also found on the south (rear) elevation. The west elevation sports a one story, shed roofed ell which forms a sun room, while the east elevation carries a balancing side entry porch. Columns on the entry portico and side porch are square wood columns with Doric bases and capitals. Wood shingles mark the portico gable. A rear porch provides an entry to a rear ell.

The front elevation is divided into five bays, with the entry portico in the central bay. Windows on the front elevation two story section are six over six double hung wood, while windows in the one story west ell are six over six windows flanked by four light sidelights on the north and south elevations. The foundation of the house is brick.

Interior design elements include a troweled plaster finish on the walls, hardwood floors, and trim and doors that are consistent with the style and age of the residence.

A garage located behind the house is considered non-contributing; it was constructed in the late 1950s.
