Level II. Replacement/repair

Rehabilitation of interior and exterior of vacant, dilapidated residence, including removal of Masonite siding from second floor, removal of exterior metal stair and footing, removal of concrete aprons, removal of vinyl siding, removal of walls around balcony off master bedroom. Repair existing foundation, using Preservation Brief No. 2. Install wood steps at exterior entrances and tongue and groove porch decking. Install beadboard porch ceilings. Repair or replace to match columns and capitals. Install asphalt shingle roof. Install gable vent in original framing. Install gutters. Repair or replace in kind wood siding or shingle wall covering. Repair fascia and trim to match original. Install new wood double hung windows sized to match original openings. Install new entry doors at original locations (front entry) and on rear, sized to match existing openings and designed to be appropriate to original design. Install HVAC. Add fireplace and chimney on east side of living room, to duplicate original. Install new screened porch at rear of building (not visible from Washington).

George F. Barber Design similar to Modern Dwellings, a Book of Practical Designs and Plans for Those who Wish to Build or Beautify Their Homes. (Design No. 239) Personal home of Manley Barber, who was associated with Barber's firm. Two story frame with artificial wide board siding. Gambrel roof with hipped dormers with dentil molding, asphalt shingle roof covering, wood shingles and circular gable vent. One story three-quarter front porch with dentil molding, triple round wood posts on shingled piers with Scamozzi capitals and sawn wood balustrade. Projecting bay on east elevation. Double hung six over six replacement windows. Brick foundation. Irregular plan.

Original exterior plan, with exception of added fire escape, artificial exterior siding and front door, is very similar to current appearance.
