Staff Recommendation

APPROVE the following repairs: chimney cap on boiler flue (center of house), chimney dampers, roof reflashing, new gutters and downspouts, rebuild front porch, screen in upper porch and new doors for the rear of house and upper porch.

Two story frame with replacement cedar shingle wall covering. Low pitched hip roof with asphalt tile roof covering. One story one bay central screened front porch with paired square wood posts on wooden piers. Six over six double hung windows. Two interior offset brick chimneys. Concrete block foundation. Irregular plan. Projecting bay on east elevation.


Roof repairs include reflashing both chimneys and building a cricket behind the large chimney. This is needed due to a significant roof leak at the location that dumps water into the house. The front porch needs to be rebuilt to stregthen the porch to relocate a hot tub. The look will be the same, but will have additional joist. A column may be added at the existing false column location. The upper porch will be screened in as per the neighborhood guidelines. A new door for the upper porch will replace the current door so to match the exisiting front door below. A new rear door is needed as the current one has many gaps. NOTE: Information received about this building since the designation indicates that it was moved to the site from another location approximately 40 years ago, and is therefore a non-contributing structure in the district because its age since moving is less than 50 years.
