Staff Recommendation

APPROVE exterior alterations and repairs to roof, masonry, porch and siding. Roof alteration will involve replacemnt of asphalt shingles with textured fiberglass shingles.

Replace asbestos (oversized) tile roof with textured fiberglass shingles; replace tongue in groove porch floor with tongue in groove porch floor; repair porch columns, repairing or duplicating column bases with replacements identical to current basis; repair porch railing; repair siding with identical size and pattern of siding as necessary.

Two story frame with weatherboard wall covering. Side gable roof with asphalt shingle covering in an oversize diamond pattern, and dormer with Palladian window. Double hung one over one windows. One story three-quarter front porch with round wood columns with Doric capitals. Three interior offset brick chimneys. Brick foundation. Irregular plan. Recessed transom and sidelights with bevelled, leaded glass front entry.


Applicant intends to make roof replacement the first priority, but to complete the remainder of the work within the two year time limit of the Certificate, beginning work sometime in the summer or fall of 2004. Repairs to the porch include replacement of exisiting tongue in groove flooring with new tongue in groove flooring, repairing or duplicating column bases with replacements identical to current bases and repairs to the porch railing. Siding will be repaired or replaced with identical size and pattern of siding as necessary.
