APPROVE. Proposed deck is approximate size of deck that existed prior to rehabilitation, but will rest on brick piers, and will have railing with balustrade identical to front porch. Landscaping will partially screen deck.

Queen Anne with Neoclassical influence (c.1900)

Two story frame with weatherboard wall covering. Hip roof with lower cross gables and front dormer, asphalt shingle roof covering, full cornice returns. One over one double hung wood replacement windows with two over two double hung window in dormer. One story full front and side wrap around porch with square wood columns with Doric embellishment, sawn wood balustrade, tongue and groove floor and bead board ceiling. Marble steps between brick buttresses accessing front entry. Transom and sidelights at front entry. Rear offset interior brick corbelled chimney. Brick foundation. Irregular plan. Projecting bays on side elevations. North side elevation door with transom in projecting bay, which also contains tripled one over one windows. (NOTE: Deteriorated deck on north elevation bay has been removed.)


This deck was originally approved under a Level I Certificate, because it was a replacement deck in a more attractive form that that of the pre-existing deck. However, there were questions from the neighborhood about the new deck. The owner was asked to stop construction and submit his plans for review by the Knoxville Historic Zoning Commission.
