1980-Present (Annual)

The U.S. Census Bureau’s Population Estimates Program shows the NUMBER of people who live in an area. Use this source if you need yearly official estimates of total population.

2013 Changes to the Knoxville Region's Statistical Areas

On February 28, 2013, the U.S. Office of Management and Budget released new definitions for the nation’s metropolitan, micropolitan, and combined statistical areas. Substantial changes were made to the boundaries of statistical areas in East Tennessee, including those for which data are reported by Knoxville-Knox County Planning.

The collection is extensive and available in printed form from the Knoxville-Knox County Planning library. Recent publications are available for online review and download.

In addition to the online demographic materials provided here, Knoxville-Knox County Planning maintains a library with print and digital information. Planning serves as an affiliate of the Tennessee State Data Center, housed at The University of Tennessee’s Boyd Center for Business and Economic Research (cber.bus.utk.edu). As an affiliate, Planning is a repository of U.S. Census Bureau data (www.census.gov).

Materials from decennial Censuses of Population and Housing are available. The collection includes releases from 1960 through 2010. The collection also includes Economic Census, County Business Patterns, and Statistical Abstracts. Some of these materials are in printed form; most are on CD-ROM and DVD.
