Indoor Storage Facilities Recommended For Approval In O-1 Zoning Districts

On April 13 at their monthly meeting, the Metropolitan Planning Commission recommended that City Council approve a climate-controlled, self-storage facility in an office, medical, and related services (O-1) zoning district.

O-1 zoning is intended to provide areas for professional and business offices and related activities that require separate buildings and building groups surrounded by landscaped yards and open areas, but other uses are permitted on review.

If City Council approves the request, the facility will be subject to several regulations:

  • All buildings will be required to meet the standards of the O-1 zoning district;
  • All buildings must have the exterior appearance of an office building;
  • Only interior access will be allowed;
  • No garage type doors will be allowed;
  • No outside storage will be allowed;
  • No overnight truck parking will be allowed; and
  • All signs must comply with the sign requirements of the O-1 zoning district.

This  request will be heard by City Council in May.
