MPC Seeks Community's Ideas on North County Sector Plan Update

North County Sector

The second round of public meetings for the North County Sector Plan kicked off on April 16 at the Halls Senior Center where MPC planners presented proposed plans, answered questions, and received feedback from the community. Comments on plan proposals were positive, and citizens made a few plan recommendations of their own, including showing the proposed greenway that will connect Halls Elementary School with the proposed Clayton Park. Another recommendation included expansion of the mixed use district (MU-NCo4) west of the Emory Road/Central Avenue Pike intersection. That designation would encompass a proposed medium density residential area and allow office and commercial uses.

MPC held an earlier round of public meetings in the North County Sector in 2011 to gather public input which was used to develop the proposals presented last week. A sector plan includes 15-year land use, community facilities, green infrastructure and transportation elements. The document is used in making recommendations for zoning cases and capital improvements.

Don't worry if you missed the meeting on April 16! A second session presenting the same information will be held on Monday, April 30, 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Powell Branch Library. The meetings are open-house style, meaning the information will be provided on display boards with staff available to answer questions. Because there is no formal presentation participants may arrive and leave at any time without missing vital information.

When this round of meetings concludes, MPC will use the community input to draft a North County Sector Plan. That draft then will be presented to the public at a meeting in the community and will also be available on our website. MPC staff will again take feedback on the draft for possible modification before presenting the plan for approval by MPC, County Commission and City Council.
