MPC, the American Institute of Architects, and the City’s Community Development Division held a public meeting on February 28 to present Magnolia Avenue Corridor Plan concepts. At the workshop, MPC presented Powerpoint slides and asked a series of questions about the following concepts:
- Preserve the few blocks of historic buildings that remain along the corridor
- Provide incentive programs to improve vacant properties
- Create new zoning (a form-based code) that allows a mix of uses (retail, office and residential) in various districts from the Old City to Burlington
- Adopt new off-street parking regulations that reduce parking requirements and credit on-street parking
- Make the corridor as functional for pedestrians as it is for vehicle traffic, including street trees, landscaped medians and more separation from moving vehicles
- Create a task force of business, neighborhood and public interests to address public safety, homeless and economic development issues
